Daniel DeLeon never imagined he would use machine learning to study endangered whales. But a life-long passion for music and fascination with the science of sound led him to an internship at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, where he used TensorFlow, Google's open-source machine learning tool, to make breakthroughs identifying endangered whale calls.
