The velocity is even higher with this 12" barrel. With Buffalo Bore's loadings, the .460 S&W; can achieve 2,826 ft lbf of energy by driving a 300 grain .452 caliber bullet at 2,060 ft/s. My brother chose this gun over the .500 S&W; mag. because there are many more choices for bullets, and the fact this can also shoot .45 Colt and .454 Casull.
