Flat steel bars are very good makeshift weapons without ANY alteration. They are heavy, hard, cheap and can be found in any hardware store or DIY market.

Here at The Slingshot Channel, we love using them as material for our builds as they are very tough and can be sharpened nicely, yet they are quite easy to work on as they are unhardened. This makes them an ideal basis for home made post apocalyptic weapons, especially blades.
